Design your Diet
- 2. Two word walk
- (Continued from Diet 1)
I pulled the curtain. I’d not had a good night. The sciatic pain had kept me awake, no matter on which side I was lying. Before going to bed I’d decided that if the sun was shining, I had to get up and go for a walk before breakfast.
The sun was shining!
OMG I’d have to get up.
I suppose it was easier as I wasn’t comfortable anyway. I dragged my clothes on. It was difficult putting socks on; it’s hard to reach these days. It’s a case of lasoo-ing the sock over the toes and pulling from the back. I went downstairs and put my shoes and coat on, thinking, I must be mad. I don’t usually go out at this time of day.
It wasn’t too bad outside. Which direction should I go? I only go out to get in the car. It wasn’t busy, so I crossed the road. There was a quiet lane. I walked down it a bit, hoping nobody I knew would see me and ask me where I was going. Saying, ‘Nowhere.’ sounds a bit odd.
Actually, it was quite pleasant. I strode out a bit trying to look like a walker. Swung my arms. Took a breath of fresh air. A man with a dog approached. ‘Good Morning’ he said. I wasn’t ready for this. People usually just pass in the street. ‘Oh! Good Morning.’ was my belated reply. I would be ready next time. I walked on, listening to some birds tweeting that I’d missed before.
At the end of the road, as nobody was looking,
I turned round and walked back home.
Hmm, right, I had done it. Was I any thinner?
It was the first step in my Two Word,
changing-life pattern that was to cure my aches
and help me lose weight.
Move-more - and I had.
Was it painful? Not very.
Could I do it again? Probably.
I looked at my breakfast and kept the quantity under control, thinking of Eat-Less.
I enjoyed it a bit more than usual, though I wasn’t any thinner.
I didn’t know it at the time, but the most important thing that I had just done was to
change my routine.
If YOU could make a change as big as a short walk, this could be the biggest change that you would need to make. It sounds impossible doesn't it? Is this blog about Diet or not? Where is all the stuff about food that should be in Diet blogs? Maybe you should read a bit more - to find out where this is going?
Could I – Would I do it again?
Ok then, I’d give it a try.
Could you?

Design Your Diet
Four words or Two?
The previous Christmas I had 2 tins of Quality Street and 2 tins of Roses, as well as 3 boxes of luxury chocolate biscuits. I had other stuff to eat, Chocolate Oranges and After Eights, plus some Liquorice Allsorts, for starters. What could I do if I wished to become slim? Not eat them? Give them away? Everybody else had got them as well. I couldn’t give them to anyone, I told myself.
I have to say that I enjoyed every single one.
It was tough, but I made it in the end,
just in time for the Easter eggs.
The pain in my leg was like Sciatica.
Wikipedia said that the longest nerve in the body is the sciatic nerve. It felt like it. I was limping and it didn’t go away at night. I could have sciatic pain, the Internet said, ‘if was pregnant’, but it’s too late for that. I should ‘avoid lifting heavy weights’, but I guessed that I was already lifting a heavy weight – me.
It said that the pain could be treated with ‘exercise’.
I referred myself to the physio-therapist.
She assessed me.
I asked if I should rest the pain away, or exercise the pain away?
She said that for me, it was exercise every time.
Oh dear!
I don’t have a stretchy leotard like they wear on TV. (I always think that the skinny youngsters leading the exercises don't need the exercises anyway.) I don’t have a high-vis jacket, trainers with a logo, or a smart phone with earbuds. Worst of all, I didn’t have a gym membership. How could I possibly exercise? I was just not equipped for it, but I had to do something.
Then I remembered the Four-word diet. Move more – Eat less. Maybe that would do it – except perhaps, I should take it one step at a time – the Two-word diet – Move-more. I decided to do something drastic to try to ease the pain. I would go for a walk before breakfast. That was in the days when it was light or even sunny before breakfast.
It was going to be hard.
Going to be extreme.
Could I do it?
(Could you?)
I decided that if it wasn’t sunny in the morning I’d stay in bed, but if the sun was shining, I would have to get up.
Right – that was settled then.
Next morning, I had a sinking feeling.
What would the weather be like?
Would the sun be shining … ?

Does your Diet work?
If YES, carry on using it.
This may not be for you.
This is for people who can admit to being too fat to themselves.
It’s about Energy and Weight reduction.
It costs nothing. You can eat anything.
It is about YOU taking control.
A Commercial Diet is one of those ‘plans’
that somebody else has made up,
that is supposed to help you to lose weight.
This is NOT a Commercial Diet.
It is Free
Before you go any further let me say:
This is NOT a 'normal' Diet site.
It has no posed, glossy pictures of delicious dishes.
It has no stories of escaping terrible illnesses through Diet.
It has no product placement.
It advertises nothing.
It won't tell you how wonderful you are
for cutting out Gluten or anything else.
It's not about making you obsessive about
mystic exercises, or daily weighing.
It is not an 'influencer'.
It is not slick, it is amateur.
It is about asking you to think for yourself.
If you have tried Diets that haven’t produced the result you need – read on.
Diet with a capital 'D' means Commercial ones.
Your diet with a small 'd' is what you normally eat.
You can design your own diet to suit You.
You just have to understand the issues.
First. Some tough questions.
Questions Questions
If you are still reading this, it could mean that your Diet hasn’t worked.
Are you too fat? (This is a Yes/No answer)
If No – I am not too fat, you have no need to read any more.
If Yes, you are firmly in the ‘most people’ category. Read on!
Would you like to lose a bit of weight? If so: Why haven’t you?
Have you tried Dieting?
Have you been on one of those?
Did it work?
Have you been on many of those?
Did they work?
If you are still reading this, they didn’t work, did they?
Even when you wanted them to, when you started.
(This is a test, to see how honest you can be with yourself)
Doing something about the problem
You could do something about it.
You could, but you haven’t succeeded. YET!
You have to say: I WILL do something.
Look in the mirror, (NOT at your face).
Look in the mirror. Turn sideways. Look in the mirror and say:
The Time has Come – to DO something about this.
(We can do this together)
Time to consider
I stress again.
This is not a conventional diet site
It is about You taking control of your diet
It is about You making decisions and making changes in your life.
This blog does not always talk about food.
It talks about other things too.
The phrase The Time has Come is taken from a poem by Lewis Carroll.
It means to make a very important decision.
Once the decision is made there will be no turning back.
Could you make such a decision?
If you think you can - in order to reduce your weight
